本名はThomas Sean Connery。中学から働きに出て卒業後はトラック運転手に。１８歳で海軍に入隊。病気のため除隊してから新聞社など職を転々としていたが、友人の勧めで『南太平洋』の舞台に立ったのをきっかけに本格的に俳優を志し、“No Road Back”で映画デビュー。が、その後もあまり陽のあたることは無かった。そんな折、５７年の「虎の行動」出演をきっかけに「００７／ドクター・ノオ」でボンド役を得てから人気上昇。以後、ボンド役を引退してからも数々の映画に出演。８７年、「アンタッチャブル」でアカデミー助演男優賞を獲得。
