リドリー・スコット

英ウエスト・ハートプール美術大学を経て、ロンドン・カレッジ・オブ・アートに進む。在学中の1961年、弟トニー・スコットを主演に起用した16ミリ短編「Boys and bicycle」を監督（完成は65年）。1年間アメリカで映像編集を学び、帰国後にBBC入社、その後CM業界に転向する。77年の「デュエリスト 決闘者」で長編監督デビューし、「エイリアン」（79）や「ブレードランナー」（82）の類い稀な映像センスで世界的な人気監督となる。95年に映画製作会社スコット・フリー・プロダクションズを設立。「テルマ＆ルイーズ」（91）、「グラディエーター」（00）、「ブラックホーク・ダウン」（01）の3作でアカデミー賞監督賞にノミネートされ、「オデッセイ」（15）は同作品賞候補となった。近年の代表作に「エイリアン」の前日譚にあたる「プロメテウス」（12）と、その続編「エイリアン コヴェナント」（17）など。「ブレードランナー」の続編「ブレードランナー 2049」（17）には製作総指揮として携わった。03年、ナイトの爵位を授与された。
