デヴィッド・クローネンバーグ

子供の頃から科学に興味を持つが、トロント大学では理系から文学部に転向した。「デビッド・クローネンバーグのシーバース」（75・日本劇場未公開）で映画監督デビュー。「ラビッド」（77）、「ザ・ブルード 怒りのメタファー」（79）を経て、「スキャナーズ」（81）で名声を得る。スティーブン・キング原作「デッドゾーン」（83）、「蝿男の恐怖」をリメイクした「ザ・フライ」（86）も成功を収めた。ハリウッド大作のオファーもあったが、独自の路線を突き進み、「クラッシュ」（96）はカンヌ国際映画祭で審査員特別賞、「イグジステンズ」（99）はベルリン国際映画祭で芸術貢献賞受賞を受賞する。近年は、ビゴ・モーテンセンを主演に迎えた「ヒストリー・オブ・バイオレンス」（05）や「イースタン・プロミス」（07）を、いずれも激しい暴力描写のある骨太なサスペンスに仕上げた。その他の作品に「ヴィデオドローム」（83）、「裸のランチ」（91）、「A Dangerous Method（原題）」（11）などがある。
